Editorial Policy and Methodology
This page explains exactly how our guides are produced, what "reviewed" means on RareExplorer, and the standards a page must meet before publication.

How a guide is produced
- 1Define one search intentEach page answers a single question. If a topic contains two questions — for example "what is a RAR file" and "how do I convert one to ZIP" — it becomes two pages that link to each other.
- 2Collect primary documentationWe start with vendor documentation, format specifications, and operating system release notes rather than other blogs.
- 3Walk the procedureFor procedural guides we perform the steps on the platform named in the page, then write the menu paths and dialog names as they actually appear.
- 4Write for a non-expertPlain American English, no keyword padding, and no filler introductions. Technical terms are defined the first time they appear.
- 5Link the clusterEvery page links up to its parent topic and out to the specific guides, platform pages, and troubleshooting pages a reader would need next.
- 6Date and revisitPages carry a last-updated date and are revisited when Windows, macOS, or a referenced program changes behavior.
What the bylines mean

| Last updated | The date of the most recent substantive review of the content, not an automatic build date. |
Sourcing rules
- We do not copy text, screenshots, or branding from RARLAB or any other vendor.
- We do not republish scraped or machine-translated content.
- Claims about behavior are limited to what we verified or what the vendor documents. Where support depends on a version, we say which version.
- Statistics are attributed. If we cannot attribute a number, we leave it out.
Safety and legality rules
- Download guidance always points to a vendor's official source, clearly marked as an external link.
- We refuse cracks, keygens, serials, repacked installers, and bundled adware, and we explain why they are dangerous.
- We warn readers before any step that can overwrite data or run an executable from an archive.
